A beautiful fundraising event at the Arthur M. Blank Foundation in Atlanta
(For the few who don't know, Arthur is the co-founder of Home Depot, and his foundation has been doing incredible work in Atlanta and elsewhere. He's also the owner of the suddenly exciting Atlanta Falcons football team.) I'd guess there were about 175 people there, from various walks of Atlanta. Kenny Blank and Matt Brill were the hosts and my Atlanta Executive Committee (Kenny, Matt, Valerie Hartman-Levy, Joel Babbit, Kirk Dornbush, Glenda Minkin and Bill Schwartz all did yeoman work pulling this together. Glenda was the one who organized everything.) Any way... there were many speakers and we showed the sample reel which worked very well. I was introduced by Tom Johnson, the former CEO of CNN, who made the crowd laugh and me blush. (He later shocked me by giving $10,000 to the project!) Miri Eisin, the former spokesperson for the Israeli Defense Forces and eighteen-year veteran of Military Intelligence, came to speak (for free!) on behalf of the project. Like many of Israel's security establishment, she cannot be politically pegged and is someone who strongly believes in finding ways for Israelis and Palestinians to live alongside each other in peace. She strongly believes Comedy for PeaceTM can be part of the process. All in all it was a lovely event that will have a great impact here in Atlanta. |
